HealthyBuilt Homes named LEED for Homes Provider in NC

(Raleigh, NC) February 18, 2008 – The US Green Building Council (USGBC) named the HealthyBuilt Homes (HBH) program of the NC Solar Center at NC State University as the newest LEED for Homes Provider for the state. NC HealthyBuilt Homes Eligible for State Employees’ Credit Union New “Green” Mortgage

NC Solar Center staff recently noted the approval by the State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) Board of Directors of a “Green” Mortgage Program for Energy STAR homes. The NC HealthyBuilt Homes Program is a statewide residential green building certification program, which requires all homes certified to be Energy STAR homes. A new Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system has been constructed at Ft. Bragg so the base can make efficient use of the energy it is supplied while ensuring reliable onsite sources of cooling, heating and power during emergencies. The Solar Center offered a letter of support for the formation of a National Science Foundation (NSF) Industry/University Cooperative Research Center, the Center for Advanced Power Electronics and Energy Storage (CAPES).
